Cable Joint

Cable Joint - This device is designed for the purpose of connecting power cables into power lines, conduits and overhead transmission power lines. The cable joints consist of parts and materials that can be applied to refurbish the electrical, integral, and mechanical components of a power cable.

Connecting Cable Joints - Fit the purpose of connecting electrical power cables and control cables, providing insulation at connecting points. protecting the cable from mechanical damage, providing galvanic connections between protective screens, earthing and providing general insulation.

Description of connecting cable joint assembly and components

The bare cores of the connecting ends of the power cables are coated with a layer of oil soaked paper insulation which is covered by a black insulating tube. The origin of the connector is then filled with a yellow mastic compound and is waterproofed using an insulating cover.

To enhance phase insulation, the cores of the cable joint are installed with a high voltage anti-tracking insulating tube which has a brick-red colour. The power cable cores are connected using bolt-connectors or tin crimp connectors. Electroconductive tubes are installed onto the connecting casings in order to stabilize the intensity of the electric field at the point of connection. As well as the previously mentioned electroconductive tubes, the point of connection is fitted with a thick cable guard with an adhesive inner layer (The cable guards are Brick Red in colour). For added insulation, a "Star" shaped spacer is installed between the cores and the remaining space is filled with a mastic filler.

After assembly of the inner casing, the space between the outer and inner layer is filled with molten mastic sealant. This provides reliable waterproofing while eliminating any air pockets within the cable joint. The protective screen at the point of connection is attached using aluminium tape. A tin-coated copper wire is used to connect the protective screen and armored tape at both ends of the cable. The basic package includes the components and accessories required to attach the grounding wire: for attachment to metal casings; pressurized rolling springs are used. Attachment to armored tape is achieved through soldering.

Upon mounting the grounding wire, the nodes at the point of attachment are sealed with a highly adhesive filler, which acts to smooth out any imperfections on the surface and adds an additional waterproofing barrier during the subsequent installation of the cable joint. Finally, the cable joint is completely sealed with a protective cover with an adhesive underlayer, which reinforces the protective elements of the cable joint.
