Power cable with XLPE insulation (copper)

Waterproofing and the use of several layers of insulation allows the cable to operate in cable constructions of a single group or gasket, but also in open bundles. For installation on open ground, high-density polyethylene with armor from two steel belts (cable index ПвБбШп or ПвБбШв), which protects the cable from mechanical damage during installation and operation.

If the screen requires to be sealed; superimposed overlapping water blocking tapes (кабель ПвПу2г), arranged in two layers on around it. If the power cable is used in cable installations, it is sufficient for the shell to be made of PVC plastic with lowered combustibility (Cable index ПвВнг or ПвВнг-LS).

Copper cables power with XLPE (Cross-Linked Polyethylene) insulation owe their unique characteristics to the insulating material they are made from. At present, polyethylene is considered to be the most widely used insulating material in the manufacture of cable and wiring products.

The use of copper power cables with XLPE insulation has many advantages compared to traditional insulation of polyvinylchloride:

  • the same throughput achieved by smaller core section;
  • permissible continuous level of the heating temperature of the cable cores is increased to 90 ° C;
  • permissible continuous temperature level of the heating cable cores during short-circuits is increased to 250 C.

In terms of performance; power cables with XLPE insulation are more reliable, efficient and economical because they require lower costs for installation, maintenance and reconstruction of cable lines. In the leading countries, such cable types are able to operate for over 40 years, which gives evidence to their application in practice. For example, in cables made from XLPE, electrical breakdowns occur less than 2-3 times less than cables insulated with BPI.
